Fraction Odds
Fraction odds are the most common use when betting with bookmakers. They are harder to understand than decimal odds. An
example of a fraction odd is 4/1. The first number is the amount you win and the second number is your stake. So if you bet £10 at
odds of 4/1 you would get £40 back (4 x £10) plus your stake - £10 (1 x £10).
Odds like 20/1 and 6/1 or any other odds with '1' as the second number are easy to work out, however fraction odds get more
complicated when this number is not 1. For example, odds of 15/2 would mean 15 divided by 2. This is half way between 7 and 8 (7.5).
Decimal Odds
Decimal odds are the modern eqivalent of fraction odds. They are much easier to work out your possible winnings than fraction odds.
As shown in the table above, an example of a fraction to decimal conversion can be 100/1. 100/1 is a fraction but as a decimal it is
101.0 To work out how much you can win from your bet simply mulitply your stake by the odds (in this case 101.0) For example if you
placed a £10 bet on Man Utd to win the English Premiership at decimal odds of 2.38 you simply multiple your stake by 2.38 to get
£23.80. This £23.80 includes your actual stake, so your winnings would be £23.80 - £10 = £18.80 winnings.
