Singles
1 Fraction Method - Multiply the stake by the fraction odds to give the winnings, then add the original stake to give your total returns,
For example £10 at 9/2.
10 x 9 / 2 = 45 + 10 (stake) = £55 total returns.
2 Decimal Method – Simply multiply your stake by the decimal figure to give the total returns,
For example £10 at 5.50.
10 x 5.50 = £55 total returns (including stake returned).
Multiples
When calculating multiples, returns from your first selection go onto the second selection as the stake. Further returns are similarly reinvested onto further selections.
For example a £10 winning treble.
Chelsea to beat Arsenal at 5/4 (2.25).
Giants Causeway at 6/1 (7.00).
Nick Faldo to win the Open at 33/1 (34.00).
1 Fraction Method - calculated as:
£10 x 5/4 + £10 (stake) = £22.50.
£22.50 x 6/1 + £22.50 (stake) = £157.50.
£157.50 x 33/1 + £157.50 (stake) = £5355 total returns.
2 Decimal Method – multiples are easier to calculate with decimal odds:
£10 x 2.25 x 7.00 x 34.00 = £5355 total returns (including stake returned).
Each-way bets
Each-way bets are two bets, win and place, and are settled as two bets. The place part is calculated at a fraction of the win odds. This fraction will vary by sport and event, and will always be displayed when each-way betting is available.
For example To win the Premier League
Each-way 1/5 1-2-3
£10 each-way on Chelsea at 15/1 selected.
-If Chelsea win the league, the win part of the bet is calculated to full odds:
£10 x 15/1 = £150 + £10 (stake returned) = £160 returns.
The place part is calculated to 1/5 of the full odds:
£10 x 15/5 = £30 + £10 (stake returned) = £40 returns.
These returns are added to give a total return of £200.
-If Chelsea are placed only, the win part stake is lost, and the place is calculated at a 1/5 of the original odds i.e. £40 total returns.
Each-way multiples
Each-way multiples (doubles, trebles, etc) are settled as two standard multiples, a win multiple and a place multiple. Returns from each are added to give total returns.
For example £1 each-way double
15/1 winner (each-way odds 1/5)
8/1 winner (each-way odds 1/4)
Calculated as two doubles, a win double, and a place double.
Win part
£1 x 15/1 = £15 + £1 (stake) = £16.
£16 x 8/1 = £128 + £16 (stake) = £144 return.
Place part
£1 x 15/5 = £3 + £1 (stake) = £4.
£4 x 8/4 = £8 + £4 (stake) = £12 return.
Total returns for the each-way double is £144 + £ 12 = £ 156.
Forecasts/tricasts
Forecast and tricast dividends are declared from the racecourse after the race. They are generated by computer based on starting prices. Dividends are quoted to a £1 stake (inclusive of stake returned). Multiply your stake by this dividend to calculate your returns.
